You are not a person who forgets things you loved. You are a person who stops doing them when they start feeling like proof of something, and then the proof becomes all you can see. The guitar was never the problem. Playing it meant you were serious about something, and serious feels like you might fail at it, and you hate failing more than you hate sitting still. So you stopped. Now the silence around that instrument is loud in a way that bores you.
Right now, you are refilling the same mug and never finishing it. You are doing the small version of the same thing. The difference between a skill you abandoned and a mug you keep heating is only the size of the loss. Both are telling you that you are afraid of being bad at something you used to love.
Take the guitar down. It will be out of tune and your fingers will hurt and the first song will sound wrong. Play it anyway. You have never needed to be good at something to know it was worth doing. Start there.
Tune one string on that guitar today and leave it sitting where you can see it.
