You spotted the kindness before anyone else did. Someone made tea in your kitchen and left the mugs rinsed, the counter wiped. A small thing, the kind of thing you would do without thinking twice. But receiving it feels like standing in a doorway you're not quite ready to walk through.
Your instinct is to return it doubled. You're already planning the meal you'll cook, the thing you'll fix, the way you'll make it so the exchange feels balanced and you're not left holding the weight of gratitude. This is how you've always moved through the world. Give first, give more, keep your hands full so there's no room to feel the shape of what you've been given.
Right now, the hard thing is simpler. Let the kindness sit where it lands. Drink from the clean mug. Notice how it feels to be on the receiving end without rushing to even it out. This is not debt. This is just someone who saw you and acted on it.
Leave the dishes one more day and buy flowers for the person who washed them.
