But rehearsal is its own kind of waiting. Every version you perfect in silence makes the real version harder to start. The conversation you're protecting them from is also the one protecting you. Your care for their feelings is real. Your fear of what comes after you speak is real too.
The script will never be perfect enough. Call them now, with your voice unsteady if it needs to be. Let the words come out half-formed and true. You already know what matters. Your job right now is not to say it beautifully. Your job is to say it at all.
